Woordenboek Tarifit-Engels

Dit boek is pas op de markt verschenen. Ik vraag me af hoe specialistisch het is. Het is wel erg duur, 120 euro.

LU English Professor Publishes Tarifit Berber Dictionary

Liberty University Professor of English and Linguistics, Dr. Clive McClelland, recently published a Tarifit Berber dictionary, a language spoken in the country of Morocco.  The Edward Mellen Press published the dictionary, A Tarifit Berber-English Dictionary: Documenting an Endangered Language, a work McClelland spent many years compiling and translating.  The dictionary contains over 5000 words and phrases. 

Berber is a language in the family of Hebrew and Arabic and is spoken by over one million inhabitants in Northeastern Morocco.  Many social and economic problems are forcing people to adopt other tongues, thus abandoning their native language.  McClelland’s dictionary helps to preserve this undocumented language.

According to The Edwin Mellen Press, said the dictionary “provides a bit of a window on the Tarifit worldview as represented in its patterns of lexical organization and thus furthers our understanding of the variety of human culture.  Equally important, there is the possibility that it will make an important contribution also to the speakers themselves.”  The Edwin Mellen Press publish scholarly works by professors at universities who hold Ph.D. degrees in their field.  The works are required to highly evaluate research quality and represent readers of research.

Wat goed, Al is het duur, denk dat het niet echt is uitbracht om winst er op te maken. Zal wel vet zijn gesubsideerd. Lijkt me wel goed om in huis te hebben, zal denk ik veel communicatie problemen kunnen oplossen.

Ik heb het boek onlangs aangeschaft en ben er erg blij mee. Nu nog een variant Engels-Tamazight n Arif en ik ben helemaal gelukkig. Het boek heeft een grammatica gedeelte (47 pagina's), een literatuurindex en natuurlijk het woordenlijstgedeelte (290 blz'en). In de woordenlijst staan de Tarift-woorden zowel in het Latijn als in het Tifinagh. Soms staan er ook voorbeeldzinnen (in het latijn) met de engelse vertaling erbij. Wat ik wel mis, is het alfabet van het Tifinagh.  Ondanks de hoge prijs (ik ben er 123 euro armer van geworden), is het zeker aan te raden om het aan te schaffen.

als ik een arabisch woord wil wegcijferen vind ik toch 70% van de gezochte woorden  in het elektronisch woordenboek op www.waac.info

het kan nooit kwaad iets handigs in huis te halen natuurlijk
