azghud = gerboise

The year 1947 was named 3am ezghouda, the year of the gerboise because the crop year was of an exceptional abundance after two years successive of famine (1945 and 1946)
The peasants found in the burrows of the gerboises stored grain which they collected for their consumption (in morrocco of course)

Also there is an insect like a combinatin of spider and ant (fr: formis) but it has a gave in the ground and it spit! some watered slum. If it hits you , you get lucky ;D
we call it Qund3a.

Bat = r-wedj-wadh is coming from arabic   الوطواط

Rcighedh (R-Ci-Ghe-Dh) is paper ( papier). In arabic it named as al waraq. not as al-kaghit. Al kaghit is verbal translated from Rcighed.

alkaghid = القرطاس الكاغد
alkaghid was known in the islamic Egypt and was manufactured with textiles الكتان
flax or القنب cannabis. The ancient egyptians used the papyrus until the chinese had developed the paper known by us.
I think the word alkaghid is ethymologicallly coming from the persian. But other sources say that it is probably a chinese word. The morrocan is the only people who has conserved the use of this word.

How do you call an Elephant in your dialect, Ait Deren?

Afra fellak,

We call it Butimezughin, whereas people from the Rif call it Aghnzur. ;D

No no...seriously. The elephant is known in tamazight as Ilu, but there's a probably a survivance of this word in the name we call the boar in tacelhiyt: Ilf, also called Butagant (bu-, tagant=forest).
This latter having probably given birth to these words we know today: elephant, olifant ...

For this kind of animal, a modus operandi to retrieve the tamazight name would be:
*to gather historical evidences
*to map them with the geographical habitat
*to map eventually with the ethnical/tribal habitat

For instance, if you look for the name of crocodiles, it shall lead you to the sub-saharian habitat, which itself drives to look for the word in zenaga-parented languages, or Tamacek (Ait Twarga).
