Some 300 young Algerians staged Thursday in El-Abed (near Moroccan-Algerian borders) a sit-in against the deterioration of their living conditions and tried to cross the Moroccan border, MAP news agency reported.
The protesters denounced the deterioration of their living conditions and called for immediate solutions to several problems related to housing, roads, schools and drinkable water.
According to Algerian and foreign media sources, the sit-in came after a football match was stopped before it would develop later into social claims.
The young Algerians headed for the crossing point of the Moroccan-Algerian border between El-Abd and the Moroccan village of Sidi Boubker, 80 km away from the city of Oujda (north-eastern Morocco).
Several Algerian cities have recently witnessed similar protests against the deterioration of the economic and social conditions in the country.
